PRLog -- If you have a kid who loves to read but has outgrown simple children’s chapter books and is still not quite ready for the teen romances and angst of Young Adult books, you most definitely have a Tween. The age range the marketing world has put on this group is 9 to14 but, as we all know, not all 9 year olds are the same as 14 year olds. What is the same are the life transitions that these particular kids are going through. A Tween is no longer a child but they still need their family close by. They’re stepping out a little at a time into the bigger world around them. They want to do more on their own and gain some distance from their parents, but not too much. They’re not teens yet who think they are ready for anything and eager to jump into the unknown, but they are ready to take a peek into that other world. They desire more power of their own but not really the responsibility that goes along with it, they still just want to have fun. Characters in a book written just for Tweens helps give them role models who navigate these transitions. From the safety of the pages, they participate in the adventure of facing things on their own along with the consequences that come with real life, good or bad.
Author T.L. Tabor wrote the book series
Death, Diamonds, And Dirty Socks to do just that. She created an adventure for Tweens that gives them a taste of being grown up and making decisions on their own, with family and friends nearby to help and guide them, and wraps it all up in humor and fun in a magical way that still lets them be a kid.
The series focuses on Jarod Dailey who has just inherited an old pair of shoes and socks from his grandfather’
s multi-million dollar estate. Together with his best friend Tommy, they try everything possible to figure out what could have been so special about the shoes that Grandpa would think someone in the family would want them. Then they find a tiny inscription on the back of the heel, “To walk a mile in a man’s shoes is to know the secrets of his heart.” They walk a mile in the shoes, they run a mile in them, still nothing, until Jarod tries them on
with the old fuzzy socks. Then the true magic is revealed; with the socks Jarod can connect with anyone through their shoes...dead or alive...and his first visit is from Grandpa.
