Follow on Google News | Promising future for WOU’S English Studies graduatesAudrey Woon, 42, a Contents and Operations Manager and a student of the programme, is one such individual. She relates on how she decided to pursue her education at WOU. “At that time, English study programmes weren’t offered by other institutions. I was uncertain initially on whether WOU would have the track record in language studies. Eventually, I became convinced that WOU’s strong credibility will be a stepping stone for me to achieve my long-term goals,” she said. Audrey has not regretted her decision since as she believes that by undertaking this programme, she will be able to complement her existing qualifications and experience, as well as enhance her knowledge. With the aid of the dedicated and experienced educators of SELC, she feels assured that she and her peers will be sufficiently equipped with the knowledge and qualities to thrive in their respective fields. Mohd Syarizal, 38, a teacher with SMK Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah and a student of WOU’s BAES programme, feels assured that the programme will not only improve his proficiency of the language, but also endow him with the necessary skills and knowledge to become an English lecturer. The rationale behind his aspiration is to improve the English proficiency of others. He will be given the opportunity to fulfill this particular goal as students will come to a crossroad towards the end of the programme, opting to pursue either Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or Language and Literature. Furthermore, they can opt to further their education at WOU by pursuing the Master of Education, which enables students to specialize either in TESL or Education Management. Syarizal attributes the flexible mode of study as the primary reason he decided to enrol at WOU. “I decided to pursue a degree in WOU because it has great facilities and allows me to study according to my time and convenience,” WOU, being a people’s university, has gone the extra mile to ease the financial burden of prospective students by providing the Return to Study Allowance (RTSA), which grants students a fee rebate of up to RM400. In addition, all new undergraduate students are eligible to receive study grant up to RM600 (Terms and conditions apply). For interested candidates, the April 2016 intake is ongoing.
