New Book Reveals Remarkable Contributions of the Irish in the Texas Revolution

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. - March 2, 2016 - PRLog -- Right on time for the 180th Anniversary of the Alamo’s fall on March 6, 1836, Savas Beatie announced the release of Dr. Phillip Thomas Tucker’s new book, The Alamo’s Forgotten Defenders: The Remarkable Story of the Irish During the Texas Revolution, which brings to light the vital role of the Irish in the war for Texas’ independence.

Within the annals of Alamo and Texas Revolutionary history, the important contributions of the Irish in triumphing over Mexico and establishing a new republic are noticeably absent. Breaking new ground with fresh views and original insights, The Alamo’s Forgotten Defenders sets forth one of the best remaining untold stories of the Alamo and Texas Revolution: the dramatic saga of the Irish in Texas. In this much-needed study Dr. Tucker has thoroughly explored this hidden history long ignored by generations of historians. Relying upon a wealth of previously unexplored primary sources, The Alamo’s Forgotten Defenders bestows long overdue recognition upon the Irish and shatters a host of pre-existing stereotypes and myths about the Texas Revolution.

“Phillip Thomas Tucker, an extraordinary historian and prolific author, is an expert at revealing little known topics of our nation’s military conflicts. His latest, The Alamo’s Forgotten Defenders: The Irish of the Texas Revolution, 1835-1836,examines the forgotten contribution of Irish immigrants in Revolutionary Texas. In all probability, Irish friends and family members faced each other across the ramparts of the Alamo. Today, few recognize their dedication to faith and their contribution as heroic warriors. Congratulations on another valuable contribution to Texas history,” said Anthony Zavaleta of the University of Texas.

Author Tucker was pleased with the end result of his efforts. “Researching and writing The Alamo’s Forgotten Defenders was a real labor of love because of my own Irish heritage and my lifelong fascination in Alamo and Irish history,” said Dr. Tucker. “Most of all, I wanted to make a meaningful and fresh contribution to the annals of Alamo historiography.”

About the Author: Phillip Thomas Tucker, Ph.D., earned his doctorate in American History from St. LouisUniversity in Missouri in 1990, and is the author or editor of more than two dozen books devoted to the American Experience. His groundbreaking biography on the life of remarkable Irish-Catholic priest John B. Bannon won the 1993 Douglas Southall Freeman Award for the best book in Southern history. Dr. Tucker now writes full-time at his southern Maryland home in Upper Marlboro.
