New ‘Social Icebreaker’ App, Plane, Helps Users Find New Connections In Their City
Plane users post ‘Signals’ and swap ‘Social Cards’ to interact and meet up with other like-minded people
Plane offers a simple yet refreshingly clean approach to social communication, and the ephemeral mechanic of Signals disappearing after 24hrs keeps the experience very much ‘in the moment’. Users respond to Signals and can then get into a ‘Convo’ chat which acts as a private one-on-one chat room. Then, you can exchange details via Social Cards within the app that are customizable and integrated with social handles like Snapchat and Instagram.
Every screen is carefully designed to deepen the level of engagement between Plane users and focus the experience on the words and messages being exchanged. Plane is designed for people to connect with new people in the city around them and thus offers them a chance to have a secondary feed of Signals specific to their city. At the time of launch, City Filters available are New York, London, Berlin, Dubai and San Francisco to name a few.
“Whilst working and commuting in and out of Switzerland in 2014 I found myself very short on options to connect with new people and find out what’s going on in the city,” said Tim Allison, CEO and Co founder of Plane. “I don’t want to use dating apps to meet likeminded people, and Facebook Groups aren’t the right place to try and break the ice. We need a social solution without the awkward or superficial approach.”
Plane has been trialed in Scandinavia over the last 2 months, primarily with expats and business consultants.
“People have really enjoyed the experience and some have remarked it reminds them of the early days of Twitter. The time has come to open it up to everyone and let them get on the Plane,” said Allison.
Plane is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod Touch at http://bit.ly/
