Follow on Google News | Love Letters Arriving in West Palm BeachLove Letters, a play by A. R. Gurney, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Two characters take the audience on an emotional ride through the lives of free-spirited Melissa Gardner and conservative, law-abiding Andrew Makepeace Ladd III.
By: Potent Pen The play emerges as sweet, elegant and touching, as two lives come into vibrant focus. It’s also a deftly woven portrait of two distinctive and endearing characters whose correspondence sustains them through half a century of personal and cultural change. The evening also makes a case for holding letter writing in high regard. “…deceptively simple and quietly moving play.” ―NY Times “To truly appreciate all that Love Letters has to offer, just sit there and listen…―NBC NY “…Love Letters is a disarmingly funny and unforgettably emotional portrait about the powerful connection of love.” ―Island Stage Left The show is directed by Kathleen Kenny. The cast includes Barbara Hartnig (of New York) as Melissa, and Bob Carter (Lake Worth) as Andy. Like the characters in the play, Barbara and Bob, in real life, have enjoyed a very long friendship. The Cast Bob Carter “The fun part is, Barbara and I worked together in theatre when we were very, very young. Now, we are not very, very young, but it is bringing back some fond and wonderful memories of our past lives together and apart. “When we met in 1967, Barbara and I bonded immediately because we agreed the best Broadway Show ever, was "The Apple Tree." I had seen it four times and she had eventually seen it nine. We even flew into New York from the place we were working to see a final performance. Barbara Hartnig “I thought it would be great fun to work together again with Bob after all this time. Starting last year, I began spending the winter here in Florida, and believed this show would be a wonderful experience, and it is.” “In the 70s in New York, Bob and I lived around the corner from each other in the West Village. I taught Bob to tap dance in the summer of 1976. I rented a studio and taught others. We had a lot of fun that first year.” Bob and Barbara “Over the past 49 years, we have both been in and out of relationships with others, but the friendship has never wavered between us.” Actor’ For more information, call Artistic Director Bob Carter at 561-301-2588.
