COLUMBIA, Md. - March 17, 2016 - PRLog -- The Howard County Citizens Association (HCCA), in conjunction with the Columbia Association (CA), the Howard County Office on Aging and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association - NARFE, will sponsor a free forum, "Getting Older is Not Optional: How You Deal with It Is." The forum will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Slayton House, Wilde Lake Village Center, 10400 Cross Fox Lane, Columbia, MD 21044.

Three panels of older adults living in Howard County -- ages 60 to 75, ages 76 to 85, and ages 86+ -- will share their experiences and challenges related to housing, transportation, health, caregiving, and social needs. The sponsors are allowing ample time for questions and reactions from attendees.

"HCCA sponsored an aging forum in 2013, which was standing room only so we thought we would sponsor another one," Paul Verchinski, HCCA Director-at-Large, and forum coordinator noted. "I run across so many people who just don't plan ahead, and like the title of our forum stresses, you're going to get older. It's not like you can just decide to stay young.  We want to encourage people to consider the different longevity stages because you face different situations from about age 60 to 75 than you do when you reach your late 80's."

The keynote speaker for the event, Ms. Cindy Hounsell, is president of the Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER) and has been recognized as one of the top 40 leaders on longevity issues by Next Avenue, public media's first and only national service for America's booming 50+ populations. More information about WISER is available at www.wiserwomen.org.

The Howard County Office on Aging has a featured spot on the agenda and will be providing worthwhile information and answering attendees' questions.

Due to the expected demand for this event and limited seating, registering early on Eventbrite is suggested at http://bit.ly/GOINOF2016.  Attendees requiring special accommodations to attend should contact Maryland Access Point at 410-313-5980 no later than April 8.  Slayton House is ADA accessible.

"This event isn't just for seniors," HCCA President, Stu Kohn added. "It's for people who want to be prepared so that they can get the most from their longevity bonus years."
