Follow on Google News | Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films to Adapt ‘La Famille Belier’ For Indian AudiencesBy: Reliance Group The original film was directed by Eric Lartigau and was released in 2014 to rave reviews and a good run at the box office. The writing credits were shared by Victoria Bedos, Stanislas Carre de Marlberg, Lartigau and Thomas Bidegain for the story that revolves around a gifted singer who is born into a family of deaf and mutes and how she follows her dreams weighed down by this irony. Anurag Kashyap, whose love for French cinema is no secret, is writing the script for the remake which is still in the pre-production stage. Kashyap said complimenting the story, "'La Famille Belier' is a great story to work on. I really liked the film and feel that with appropriate changes in sensibilities and the tone, it will become a very interesting story for our audiences." Vikas Bahl is also involved with the project and is working on developing the subject into multiple languages. He said that it will be interesting to adapt the plot for Indian audiences, "'La Famille Belier', at heart, is a story about love and compassion for one's family. We feel it is a beautiful story that will resonate with Indian sensibilities and culture, and we want to develop it in multiple languages, so that we reach out to as big an audience as possible." Reliance Entertainment will helm global distribution for the film. The film sees the girl shift from being a crucial part of the family, as she helps them communicate with the outside world, to being urged by her trainer to follow her dreams to become a singer by moving to Paris. She, of course, can’t leave town leaving her family behind and this conflict carries the film till the end. 'La Famille Belier' won Cesar Awards 2015 in the category of Most Promising Actress (Louane Emera), besides nominations for Best Film, Best Actress (Karin Viard), Best Actor (Francois Damiens) and Best Supporting Actor (Eric Elmosnino). Other than nominations in the European Film Awards and Globes de Cristal Awards, it was also accolade with the Best Actress and Most Promising Young Actress in Lumiere Awards in 2015.
