By: Heidi Burkhart NYC-based entrepreneur and philanthropist Heidi Burkhart will bring this new fitness initiative to the youth serviced by Covenant House, with the help of the Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex, who will host the monthly series. For her role Burkhart says, “I chose to start this initiative with the youth of Covenant House not only to bring health consciousness into their lives but also to foster life skills like teamwork, goal setting and accountability through the fitness. I believe that, given the tools, these kids can reach and even surpass every one of their goals. It is my hope that participants will walk away not only better equipped to lead healthy lives but more fulfilling lives as well.” The program will focus on youth ages 18-21, bringing a rotation of Chelsea Piers’ instructors who will introduce participants to a variety of fitness regimens and reachable and healthy fitness goals. In addition to fitness instructors, the program will also bring in speakers to further instill not only the importance of fitness but also hard work, continuing to motivate them to hustle, both in the gym and out.
