SAN DIEGO - Feb. 16, 2016 - PRLog -- Kala Brand Music Company donated 1,000 Waterman Ukuleles to Guitars in the Classroom (GITC), a nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of education for all students by expanding the role of music in learning. The Waterman Ukuleles are made of a high grade plastic, making them water resistant, durable and easy to keep clean.

“Kala Brand Music has shown outstanding dedication making musical learning a reality today and into the future by supporting hands-on strumming and singing for students in GITC classrooms,” explained Jessica Baron, GITC founder and Chief Executive Officer. “We already have Watermans going out to participating GITC classroom and music teachers in San Diego County and Los Angeles City schools as well as into classrooms in New York, North and South Carolina and West Virginia. The next recipients will be in our programs in Arizona, Massachusetts and Delaware.”

The Waterman Ukuleles will allow teachers to help every child learn to play in strumming stations in general and music classrooms. Through this innovative GITC model, 5-10 students at a time serve as a “band” that accompanies classmates singing their original Songs for Learning. After a verse and chorus, strummers and singers trade places so every student gets a turn.

“We communicate and express ourselves with music. It would be a sad thing if this generation missed out on these crucial skills,” said Dave Cafiero, Vice President of Sales and Operations at Kala Brand Music Company. “By expanding the role of music as a teaching tool for every subject area and all students, Kala can be a catalyst for the next generation of musicians. It is our aim to help to resource teachers, schools and kids with playable instruments by supporting the work of Guitars in the Classroom.”

GITC aims to have all 1000 Waterman Ukuleles distributed by the end of March.

“GITC is so grateful to the folks at Kala Brand Music,” remarked Baron. “It’s a family-friendly company. They understand that instruments have to hold up in a school setting. Plus it’s cold season and kids are sharing more than their good ideas. Thank goodness Kala gave us ukuleles we can sanitize with the wipe of an anti-bacterial cloth before passing them along to other students!”
