A New Vision of Ourselves & America - Speaker Series

EL CERRITO, Calif. - Feb. 16, 2016 - PRLog -- A New Vision of Ourselves.  A New Dream of America.  A New Religion for the World.

These are the themes of a new series of nationwide talks being initiating by James Hilgendorf, author of "Life & Death: A Buddhist Perspective", "A New Myth for America", "Handbook for Youth in a Muddied Age", and other titles that are opening up a revolutionary way of looking at ourselves, our potential, and the meaning of our lives in this world.

"Happiness is what all people are looking for," says Hilgendorf. "We live in a world where many people - especially our youth - have lost hope.  They see a world filled with divisiveness, mistrust, conflict and war. They see a world where opportunity seems to be narrowing.  The visions and philosophies and religions of the past are increasingly losing their hold on our lives, and nothing seems ready to take their place."

Hilgendorf is a Buddhist, having practiced Buddhism for over forty years with the Soka Gakkai International, the largest Buddhist lay organization in the world now, with 12,000,000 members in 192 countries and territories around the globe.

He argues that the Buddhism of the Soka Gakkai (and the ideals that it upholds) is now taking its place on the world's stage as the next great world religion - a religion empowering people and presenting them with a practical means of bringing forth a great state of life and happiness.

What are the ideals of the Soka Gakkai?  The sanctity of all life.  Utter respect for each individual person.  Belief in the ability of anyone to manifest the great potential lying within their lives, and to bring forth a life of absolute happiness right here, right now, in this world.  A religion transcending narrow identities of race, culture, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, nationality, and even religion.

Of his book, “Life & Death: A Buddhist Perspective”, a few reviewers wrote:

"If I were to teach a basic college-level course in religion, philosophy, or metaphysics - call it Spirituality 101 - this book would be required reading.  In fact, it would be the first week's assignment.  Having read all or parts of nearly a thousand books dealing with spiritual matters, I cannot recall another that so simply and effectively blends the fundamentals of religion and science." - Michael E. Tymn, Journal of Religion and Psychical Research.

"A must-read!  I am serious when I say that reading James Hilgendorf's 'Life & Death: A Buddhist Perspective' was a life-changing experience.  It has changed the way I will live the rest of my life." - Lisbeth Gant-Britton, author of "African American History” and UCLA adjunct professor in African-American Studies.

A comment from one of his latest talks:

“James presentation was full of interesting information and ideas. He presented ideas from great thinkers of the past, as well as more modern ideas on how our society has come to be where it is now, where it could be headed and what we need to do to get there. His knowledge about the world’s religions and his Buddhist background made for a thought-provoking presentation and generated a number of very interesting questions and comments from our audience.”
– Barbara Rockhold, Chair of Personal Theology Speaker Series at Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley
