Follow on Google News | A Valentine’s Day Letter to Planet EarthBy: E2 Energy Advisors Through the years I’ve had the opportunity to see and experience more and more of your hidden treasures as well as your everyday beauty that comes with your morning sunrise or evening sunset. What I didn’t realize in my younger years and what I’ve come to increasingly realize now, is that you’ve changed. And it’s not because of you, it’s me. You were doing fine for millions of years without me; even with the occasional ice ages, meteor impacts, and volcanic disruptions, you survived. Even thrived. Now it seems like everything is different between us. And again, it’s not you, it’s me. It’s me and my fellow inhabitants that have caused you so much grief and heartache, and I want to say that we’re sorry; sorry about the changes like acid rain, global rainforest decimation, to the global ozone hole, Three Mile Island , Chernobyl, to Fukushima, to the Exxon Valdez and the Gulf oil spills; we’re sorry for all of that. Although forever scarred by these incidents and environmental disasters we brought to you, you stood by our side through it all. No matter what we threw at you, you remained steadfast to us and have taken care of us each day. Now everything’s changed between us again; and again, it’s not you, it’s us. It’s sad to say but the past few years have brought new challenges to our relationship and global warming and human caused climate change has been proven to be taking place and it’s a bigger problem than any of us had ever envisioned. Now I know that we’ve denied global warming and claimed that it’s economically damaging to change from past habits of a carbon fuel based economy but there is hope. Currently, the technologies exist to run all of our homes, cars, factories, and nations with non-polluting solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources. What’s our excuse? I know, I know. We’ve said that we’re going to change but change is hard to do. For one, getting everyone to agree that we have a problem is a problem in itself. Then you have all of the carbon based entities and governments exerting political influence and PAC money to protect their interests and the current status quo. What they don’t realize is that it’s in the entire global population’s best interest to stop these policies and adopt new policies that will promote new economic development and implementation and adoption of cleaner, greener technologies that will power the global economy into the future. So planet earth, I'm sorry if we've been jerks lately. Please stick with us and give us another chance as we try to undo some past hurts we’ve caused you. You’ve stood by us before and we promise to do better next year, and in the years ahead. Happy Valentine’s Day. End
