UNESCO Awards Democratic Presidential Candidate Rocky De La Fuente with Honorary Doctorate

DES MOINES, Iowa - Feb. 13, 2016 - PRLog -- The Institute of Advanced Studies Foundation of UNESCO has awarded an honorary doctorate to Democratic presidential candidate  Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente. De La Fuente was recognized for his work as an “International Corporate Ambassador" in late January.

CONALMEX, the Mexican Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, endorsed De La Fuente’s nomination for the award. UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, conferred the honorary doctorate upon De La Fuente for the extraordinary success and impact he has had in international business not only in Mexico but across the globe.

De La Fuente was particularly influential during Mexico’s 1982 financial crisis, which arose when that country’s banks were nationalized by presidential decree. He opened 11 currency exchanges to allow trade to flow between Mexico and the United States. As part of this network, he simultaneously opened seven offices in California including Los Angeles (3), San Ysidro (3) and Calexico, as well as four in Texas in the cities of El Paso (2), Laredo and McAllen. Then, over the next five years, De La Fuente founded three U.S. banks; one a National Bank approved by the OCC and two State Charter Banks approved by the California Banking Commission which, in turn, were approved by the FDIC.

This is just one example of how De La Fuente has reached out to other countries when they were in need. He also has traveled extensively and created businesses that brought critical jobs to other countries just as he has created thousands of jobs across the United States.

De La Fuente said, “I feel extremely privileged to have received this award. I never imagined that I would be honored in this way for simply doing what I thought was right and for building better relations with other countries.”

While given less publicity throughout the 2016 presidential election cycle than his contemporaries, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley, De La Fuente has far more practical experience, both nationally and internationally, when it comes to economic development. This honorary doctorate is a reflection of his international experience and the impact his actions have had across the world.
