Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel has put its new policy of only serving organically-grown rice in its restaurants, banqueting and staff canteen into immediate effect, taking its first delivery of certified rice on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 with plans to order over 22 tons by the end of 2016.

Marking the opening of a new chapter in the hotel’s community engagement and sustainability practices, the rice carries Organic Agriculture Certification Thailand confirming that the Satjatham Rice Project, Amnatcharoen, where it comes from, meets ACT Organic Standards.

As such, it closely complements the hotel’s distinction of being the first in the world to achieve ISO 20121 certification for planning and delivering sustainable events.

Indeed, it has long been a policy of Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel to support local communities, especially agricultural communities implementing sustainable practices, as one of a variety of means of giving back to society.

Moreover, the policy is itself organic – and growing – with commitments to only serving organic fruits and vegetables currently in the planning stage.
