Fourth Annual Grafton Winter Carnival Promises a Big Dose of Winter
Skiing, snowshoeing, snow tubing, and more winter fun planned for February 20
By: The Grafton Inn
The Carnival starts at 9 a.m. with Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking on the 15km trail system at Grafton Ponds, a third of which has snowmaking. Throughout the day, ice skating will be available on the pond (depending on the weather) and starting at noon, a roaring bonfire and s’mores will light up the rest of the day. All of these activities are included in the $15 Carnival ticket, available at the gate.
During the Carnival, horse-drawn sleigh rides will be available from noon to 3:30 p.m. for $20 for adults and $12 for children. The Grafton Inn’s Pizza Truck will serve up hot pies with Grafton cheese, pepperoni or veggies from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Skis, snowshoes and fat bikes are available to rent for $12 each.
Following the festivities at Grafton Ponds, the Grafton Inn will host its popular Ice Bar event, starting at 4 p.m. Vermont libations from Harpoon Brewery, Whistlepig Whiskey, and Vermont Distillers are on tap until 9 p.m. on February 20. Tickets are $25 and include admission, two drink tickets and a souvenir glass. Phelps Barn Tavern, adjacent to the Ice Bar, will play host to live music starting at 8 p.m.
For those who’d like to stay for the whole Carnival weekend, the Grafton Inn offers a Winter Carnival package that includes two nights' lodging, two tickets to the Ice Bar, dinner both nights, and breakfast both mornings for two people. This package may be reserved at http://www.graftoninnvermont.com or by calling 802-234-8407.
