ORLANDO, Fla. - Feb. 10, 2016 - PRLog -- For the second time in its history, the Honda Civic has won the coveted “2016 North American Car of the Year Award.”

The award is granted annually by a group of 53 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada and is presented each year during the opening of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

About the Award

Rather than being offered by one media outlet, this prestigious award is uniquely given out collectively by automotive journalists from various publications and broadcast stations.

The honor singles out a vehicle that is considered the most outstanding of the year based on such criteria as:

● Innovation
● Design
● Safety
● Performance
● Handling
● Driver satisfaction
● Value

Second Time Around

Exactly 10 model years ago, the Civic won the NACOTY award for the first time, when the 2006 Civic claimed the honor.

As of the 2016 model year, 11 total Honda vehicles have been named NACOTY award finalists since the awards were founded in 1994, which is the most wins of any automaker outside of Detroit’s Big 3.

Winning Qualities

The victorious 2016 Honda Civic was developed and is manufactured in North America, featuring a redesign from the ground up with new architecture, fresh interior and exterior design, a higher-quality and more spacious cabin, two cutting-edge new engines, and various sophisticated amenities.

Features onboard the new Civic include the world’s first compact car application of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2016 Civic also offers Honda Sensing safety technology and the first utilization of Honda turbo engine technology in a Civic.

Putting It All Together

Development of this 10th-generation Civic was helmed by Honda R&D Americas Inc., and production of the Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe takes place in Indiana and Ontario, Canada.

The five-door Honda Civic is slated to be introduced in the near future and will roll off the assembly line at the Honda Swindon Plant in the United Kingdom.
