Follow on Google News | Whizmeal Launches Global 100 Schools Campaign to Promote Healthy Eating & Improve School CanteensTo participate, interested schools should visit Whizmeal’s website www.whizmeal.org or contact Whizmeal hi@whizmeal.com directly, where they will be asked to fill up a questionnaire that can better help Whizmeal understand the school and its needs.
By: Whizmeal The campaign will give one hundred schools around the world a free six-month access to use its Whizmeal platform, which lets parents pre-order their children’s school meals online based on the nutritional content of each dish and make a joint dietary decision with their children in the process. Each school that applies to the programme will be given a dedicated, secure version of the portal. With this, schools can upload meal times and menus, with specific sections dedicated to the nutritional aspects of each dish. Parents can then pre-order and pay for their children’s meals online, and review their child’s dietary habits over a period of time. The platform also provides each family with a food journal meant for parents and children to record their experiences. So far, Whizmeal has operated only within Singapore, where its innovative platform has helped children achieve a balanced diet by consuming the right amount of nutrients each day. It has also provided local schools with a host of consultancy services to support its online ordering platform, such as making sure school canteen meals comply with Singapore’s Health Promotion Board (HPB) guidelines for schools. Feedback has been positive, with schools commending the Whizmeal initiative on not just encouraging healthy eating, but also improving canteen operations by reducing food wastage, increasing efficiency and helping food providers lower the risk of doing business. The platform has proven especially successful in schools experiencing an obesity problem, due to platform’s ability to rigorously monitor the nutritional intake of each student and promote balanced meal. Whizmeal’s success in Singapore has attracted the attention of education and healthcare professionals in countries such as Japan, the UK, Malaysia and Brunei, who have urged the Singapore startup to bring their expertise and platform to local schools in the respective countries. According to the Founder, Soon Mei: “Such international requests are the impetus behind Whizmeal’s 100 Schools campaign to allow more schools to understand the multi-dimensional benefits the Whizmeal platform gives to the school administrators. We hope our campaign, which is aligned to one of WHO’s six main drivers to promote healthier school-age children, will increase awareness and over time bring better eating habits to as many schools as possible on this planet”. For add-ons, such as Whizmeal’s consultancy and nutrition analysis services, schools will be charged a nominal fee. To participate, interested schools should visit Whizmeal’s website (www.whizmeal.org) or contact Whizmeal directly (hi@whizmeal.com), where they will be asked to fill up a questionnaire (http://home.whizmeal.com/ _______________ World Health Organization (WHO) Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity (ECHO) published a final report on 26 January 2016 http://www.who.int/ End
