Madigan’s Lies Continue Politics as Usual in Illinois State House Primary Race
“I have been very open about my story and my poor decisions as a teenager. More than twenty years ago, I dropped out of high school at 16 and used credit cards that were not mine. It was wrong and I paid the price. I’ve changed my life and that resonates with people,” said Gonzales.
Gonzales, 42, a consultant, went from high school dropout and teenage delinquent to eventually graduating cum laude from Duke University and earning master’s degrees from MIT and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Gonzales went on to start a successful catering business, which he owned for more than a decade. He also founded an international non-profit, which helped more than 30,000 people gain access to clean water in India. He earned a full pardon from Gov. Pat Quinn because of his work.
“Speaker Madigan’s ridiculous lies about me are perfect examples of the 'machine politics' that people are sick of and that have driven our state into its current situation. Madigan has never had an opponent like me in 45 years, it’s clear that he feels threatened. Instead of running on his record, he has to resort to lies,” Gonzales said.
Madigan’s camp went as far as sending out a mail piece that faked a quote from the Cook County State’s Attorney about Jason. They have also alleged that Jason is really a Republican despite his voting record being consistently Democratic, voting for Gov. Quinn, and running on a policy platform which is more progressive than Speaker Madigan.
