Wisconsin's Fighting Bob La Follette is rolling in his grave

SAN DIEGO - Feb. 9, 2016 - PRLog -- In 1905, Robert M. La Follette Sr., the legendary Congressman, Governor and Senator from Wisconsin, first proposed the primary election system in order to take the selection of the parties nominees out of the hands of the party leaders and put it into the hands of the people.  Today, the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB) is trying to do the opposite.

In early January, the Presidential Preference Selection Committee met to determine who they, the political insiders, felt should be included on the Presidential ballot. Mr. Rocky De La Fuente, a California businessman, had requested that they consider his name to be placed on the ballot at that time. Despite the fact that Mr. De La Fuente was appearing on more ballots than Gov. Martin O’Malley at that point, they refused to include him.  So, he pursued the tough task of circulating petitions all across the state and turned in more than 8,000 required signatures.

De La Fuente said, “The political elites at the GAB and the Presidential Preference Selection Committee are trying to dictate political choices to the voters. This contradicts the very reason why La Follett introduced primaries. I can’t believe Wisconsin is taking this giant step backwards.”

Today Wisconsin GAB is ignoring the will of the people by excluding Rocky from the ballot.  They are infringing on the rights of all Latino voters, and all voters, in Wisconsin by not allowing the only Latino Democratic candidate to appear on the ballot.

The actions of the political elite to limit the rights of the voters is exactly why Fighting Bob La Follette worked so hard to establish the primary system and give the right of electoral choice directly to the voters. The actions of the Presidential Preference Selection Committee and the Wisconsin GAB must have Fighting Bob La Follette rolling in his grave.

Also today, the Secretary of State of California announced that Rocky will be on the California ballot in second ballot position for the more than 39 million California voters to consider. Sadly, bureacracy is blocking Wisconsin voters from also having that choice.
