Call for Speakers Now Open for CHI’s DNA Forensics Conference

Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI) has issued a call for papers for those who would like to present at its event on August 23-24, 2016 in Washington, DC. Submission deadline is February 12, 2016.

NEEDHAM, Mass. - Feb. 5, 2016 - PRLog -- Advances in DNA profiling technologies are enabling faster and more accurate results, in some cases moving procedures from the lab to the crime scene. Emerging tools such as next-generation sequencing are also creating new possibilities in forensic DNA investigation, but with that comes unfamiliar scientific and legal implications. Cambridge Healthtech Institute’s Inaugural DNA Forensics event will examine new technologies, changing policies, and trends in forensic DNA investigations. Special focus will be given to next-generation sequencing (NGS), including statistical analysis and interpretation of DNA profiles. Optimizing extraction techniques and isolation will also be addressed with an emphasis on challenging samples. Overall, this event aims to address existing bottlenecks while introducing solutions and new concepts in the DNA identification field.

CHI seeks high-quality papers relating to the following topics:

OPTIMIZING DNA EXTRACTION TECHNIQUES

• Working with challenging samples

• Extraction efficiency

• Processing methods

• DNA quantification

• Working with trace DNA, Low Copy Number (LCN) DNA, and mixture DNA

• Extracting DNA from:

• Cadaver soil samples

• Eggs, larvae, pupae, and insects

• Postmortem microbial communities

• Skeletal remains

• Fingerprints

• Touch DNA

DNA ISOLATION AND PROFILING

• Short Tandem Repeat (STR) profiling

• Mitochondrial DNA

• RNA Biomarkers

• Using databases (CODIS)

• Mixture interpretation software

RAPID DNA EVALUATION

• Rapid amplification in crime scene samples

• Development of portable DNA extraction tools

• Improving processing efficiency

TECHNOLOGIES FOR HUMAN IDENTIFICATION: EXISTING AND EMERGING

• Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

• Loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP)

• Mass Spectrometry

• Next-Generation Sequencing

• Expert Systems

• Lab-on-a-Chip
