Students Share Their Opinions On Smoking and Drinking

FORT WORTH, Texas - Feb. 1, 2016 - PRLog -- Every year 1Dental offers a scholarship to students in the United States. The time has come to announce the winner of this year’s 1Dental Scholarship.

Ashia Davis, a senior in Michigan, has been announced the winner of the 2016 1Dental Scholarship! Ashia has been awarded $1,000 to apply to her college degree. She wishes to study at New York University when she graduates high school and major in Business and Political Economy. Out of 3,861 applicants, Ashia is deemed the lucky winner this year.

Since 2014, 1Dental has offered their annual scholarship to high school seniors and college students alike. 1Dental strives to encourage continued education as well as healthy living for all students through their scholarship. This year’s scholarship required students to fill out a survey asking about their smoking and drinking habits, as well as their overall opinions on the activities. Students were also asked about their dental health habits and how they believe drinking or smoking could affect individual dental health. In order to share their fascinating findings, 1Dental will be writing a number of informational reports using the data that was collected from this year’s scholarship survey. One particularly interesting piece of data was uncovered while the responses were being analyzed. The majority of students that answered “yes” when asked if they currently smoke on a regular basis, stated that they began smoking between the ages of 16 and 18. According to the respondents, most students began smoking as a way to relieve stress. This points to an intriguing thought that the stresses of high school life could be what is turning young students to smoking. This could change perspectives of parents as they encourage healthy habits in their children through high school.

The 2016 1Dental Scholarship survey was a tremendous success, with over 3,500 applicants. Keep an eye out for the reports soon to be published by 1Dental: “What Your College Student Has to Say about Smoking and Their Dental Health” and “What Your College has to Say about Drinking and Their Dental Health.” The scholarship applications will soon be updated for students who wish to participate in the 2017 1Dental Scholarship. Students enrolled in a high school (seniors only), college or university are encouraged to take part in this scholarship opportunity.
