Jacob O’Mara and Jared Allen Celebrate their first CBR Win in Rio Rancho

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Feb. 1, 2016 - PRLog -- Twenty-nine bull riders joined Tuff Hedeman on the dirt at the Santa Ana Center for CBR’s Bucking on the Rio Grande presented by the Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation on Saturday night in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

After 19 qualified rides and 48 outs, it was the Cajun cowboy, Jacob O’Mara and Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team 1 who earned the event’s championship honors, both for the first time, on the eighth stop of the 2016 Road to Cheyenne.

“I think every cowboys plan is to wear that gold buckle at the end of the year and if god willing and that’s where he wants me then I am dang sure going to give it my all,” said O’Mara about this win and launching his CBR ambitions.

With 17 new bulls and four new riders on the roster, the New Mexico tourism slogan, Adventure Starts Here, could not have been truer for the riders and stock contractors as they headed west into the desert hoping to garner points for the 2016 CBR World Finals.

Riding three bulls the former Louisiana High School Rodeo State Champion and 2011 NFR qualifier Jacob O’Mara steadied his course through uncharted territory.

With 15 qualified rides on the board, round one was a nail bitter to see who would advance to the semifinal round. Kody Deshon and Tim Bingham tied round one at 90.5 points. Rookies Demond Haynes, Mickey Andrews, Denton Fugate, Joseph McConnell and Dixon Hestetune would advance to the semifinal round with the veterans Cody Teel, Wyatt Rogers and Jacob O’Mara.

O’Mara was the last rider to qualify with an 87 point ride on 269 Hot Dog, a new bull on tour with Jeff Harris.

Showing off five new bulls for the 12 man semifinal round, the stock contractors created a completely different story.

Jacob O’Mara would strike first with an 87.5 on Lyndal Hurst’s 285 Wreck ‘Em followed by Southeastern Oklahoma State University bull rider, Wyatt Rogers who captured the round and average lead with an 89.5 on Too Juicy.

But in an unusual twist, the bulls would regain control and the next ten riders would buck off including World Champion Cody Teel at 7.92. Round one winner Kody DeShon’s night could have ended when the rankest scored bull of the night, Barn2Buck’s Cowtown Cartel brought him down in 2.34 seconds, but DeShon and Bingham’s round one score of 90.5 would advance them to the final four on one score.

With Hedeman selecting three unknown bulls for the final four Shoot Out round, the advantage was once again with the bovines. With an average score of 176.5 on two, Rogers was in command of the final round. He would select Rawson’s bull Spanky, a bull making his CBR debut and whom Rogers had only seen on video. O’Mara, 174.5 on two, would select next and was eager to pick NFR bull Yellowhair, whom he thought was the best draw of the four bulls to win the event.

Bingham selected Cowbanger and DeShon would be left to attempt Championship Pro Rodeo’s new bucker, Black Magic.

Bingham and DeShon bucked off before the whistle, but O’Mara would demonstrate complete command of his draw and electrified the crowd with a 92 point ride on a bull he had seen many times and was confident he could ride.

“I knew I had to step up and pick him to seal the deal...I was going for Yellowhair all along, he’s big and I like them that way, I can get a hold of them when they are big, I have wanted to draw him for awhile.”

With only one more to go, Rogers, who has ridden the last five bulls he has attempted in CBR competition, would post an 88.5 on Spanky who was not enough bull to overtake O’Mara. It was O’Mara’s first event title win after making his comeback from multiple injuries since qualifying for the NFR in 2011. He took home a check for $13,300, a pair of custom Fenoglio boots, a trophy buckle from HyO Silver and a western felt hat from American Hat Co.

CBR Bull Team Challenge

“I was headed out the back door when Benny Cude (CBR CEO) stopped me and said “you won”, said Matt Scharping, manager of Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Teams who finished first in the CBR Bull Team competition in Rio Rancho.

All three bulls had their regular and expected trips, continued Matt, and we are thrilled to get the first win for our teams. Bingham was 90.5 on Billy Jack, a bull Bingham immediately declared was the most fun bull he has ever gotten on at a CBR. Bingham’s sentiment is exactly what the Allen team wants to hear about their bulls.

“Jared wants to bring bulls the riders like to get on,” reiterated Scharping.

Juan Alonzo would come down early on Allen’s Admiral Bull at 6.16 seconds and Scharping was surprised that bull was as rank as he was due to the fact he is coming back to competition from a long injury.

Hy Test, a grandson of Mossy Oak Mudslinger and Kid Rock, bucked in the third position and performed to expectations bucking off Bingham in the semifinal round.

As bull team owner Jared Allen, NFL defensive end with the Carolina Panthers, prepares for the Super Bowl next week, Scharping said he was excited to get the news via text that his bull team had won the check for $20,000, a pair of Fenoglio boots, a hat from American Hat Co., and a custom HyO Silver trophy buckle.

WORLD STANDINGS RACE

Cody Rostockyj bucked off his reride bull in round one, but remains atop the world standings with 975.5 points. Reigning CBR World Champion and 2012 PRCA World Champ, Cody Teel, moved into second place with 880 points after covering his first round bull, just 2.5 points ahead of 3-time World Champion Sage Kimzey who stayed steady with 878 points. 19 year old Wyatt Rogers made the biggest move after riding 3 in Rio Rancho and he ranks fourth with 784.
