Sterlite Copper organises ‘Colours’ drawing competition for School students

THOOTHUKKUDI, India - Feb. 1, 2016 - PRLog -- Sterlite Copper organised 4th edition of ‘Colours’, a drawing competition for students of Thoothukudi district studying from 1st Standard to 12th Standard here on 31.01.2015 at The Vikasa School, Millerpuram, Thoothukudi. The objective of Colours is to provide opportunity to bring out the latent innate talent of the students.

Sterlite Copper conducts ‘Colours’ every year to provide a quality creative platform to students on continuous basis. This year, more than 2500 students from the district participated in the event under five categories. Different themes were given to different category of student. The themes for this event are aligned with India’s Prime Minister Vision viz. Swachh Bharat, Renewable Energy and Digital India. The event was inaugurated by Capt. Sonica Muraleedharan, Head Human Resources and Dr R Kailasam, Chief Medical Officer & Head CSR of Sterlite Copper.

The first category included students between first and third standard and the theme given to them was ‘The Nature’. Selva Linga Yuvanthika from Vikasa School, P Janessa Mabel from Holy Cross Anglo Indian School and Hamilton Kevin, Vikasa School were the top three winners respectively.

In second category, the students included fourth and fifth standard and the theme given to them was ‘My Happiness’. Niranjana Nayagi from Holy Cross Anglo Indian School, Muthu Devi from Vikasa School and Sri Devi from Holy Cross Anglo Indian School were the top three winners.

The third category included students between sixth and eighth standard and the theme given to them was ‘Swachh Bharat’. M.Arunaselvam from St. Francis Xavier Higher Secondary School, A.Keerthana Devi from Kamalavathi Higher Secondary School and B.Raja Kishanth from St. Lasalle Higher Secondary School were the top three winners.

In fourth category, the students included nineth and tenth standard and the theme given to them was ‘Renewable Energy’. M.Sathish Kumar from St. Lasalle Higher Secondary School, Maurya Vidyavathi from BMC School and S.Wilfred Joyce Roche from Good Shepherd Model School were the top three winners.

The fifth category included students between eleventh and twelfth standard and the theme given to them was ‘Digital India’. M.Jothika from Subbaiah Vidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School, M.Ajith Kumar, St. Mary's Boys Higher Secondary School and A.Yesmitha Devi, Kamalavathi Higher Secondary School took honours.

The winners were awarded with medals and cash prizes worth Rs. 1 Lakh in total.Top three winners in the first category received Rs 4000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 while the second category winners received Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000, third category winners received Rs 6000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000, fourth category winners received Rs 8000, Rs 6000 and Rs 4000 and the fifth category winners received Rs 10,000, Rs 8000 and Rs 6000 respectively. In addition to this, 10 consolation prizes worth Rs 500 each were given to the students under each category.

Chief Guest Mr Ashwin M Kotnis, IAS, Superintendent of Police, Thoothukudi District and Mr P.Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Copper distributed the prizes to the winners.

Mr Ashwin M Kotnis appreciated Sterlite Copper efforts for executing various community welfare activities in Thoothukudi. While addressing the chief guest address, he told that the participation is more important than the winning and congratulated the winners and participants of Colours. Mr P.Ramnath presided over the programme and listed out various initiatives taken by Sterlite Copper in facilitating overall social development of Thoothukudi particularly promotion of sports and education.

Mr. Velsankar, Chairman, Vikasa School, Mr. Naveen Kumar Charles, Principal, Vikasa School, Mr D Dhanavel, Head Commercial and Asset Optimization, Mr I Rajasekhar, Head Business Excellence & CCR, Mr N Hariharan, Head Logistics and Mr M Esakkiappan, Head Public Relations were present for the event.
