Powerhouse Dynamics and Weathermatic Partner to Impact Energy and Water Management

DALLAS - Jan. 29, 2016 - PRLog -- Powerhouse Dynamics, makers of the SiteSage enterprise asset and energy management system, and Weathermatic, makers of SmartLink Wireless Landscape Network, have joined forces to create a comprehensive asset management system for commercial facilities. Separately, SiteSage focuses on energy and asset management while SmartLink provides remote monitoring and control of landscape irrigation systems. The collaboration aims to bridge the great divide between energy and water controls.

This partnership is the first of its kind that makes a simple, affordable solution for managing the energy-water nexus – not just one element or the other. “There is a lot of talk about the energy-water nexus,” said Weathermatic CEO Mike Mason, “but little is done in the way of centrally managing both resources in a practical and scalable way. This is what Powerhouse Dynamics and Weathermatic have enabled through our integration.”

Initially proposed by Arby’s, a leader in corporate social responsibility and a mutual Quick Service Restaurant client, SiteSage with SmartLink will benefit any real estate portfolio that has landscape irrigation. The software provides remote control, monitoring, critical alerts, and reports for HVAC systems, refrigeration, other equipment, and now irrigation with the convenience of a single sign-in. Facilities Managers will appreciate having maximum visibility and control over their varied systems with minimal effort and expense.

Other companies have attempted to create a comprehensive energy and asset management system, but most focus only inside facilities, leaving out the largest water user – landscape irrigation. In dry climates, outdoor water use can be as high as 60 percent. According to the EPA, as much as 50% of the water used on landscapes is wasted, causing profit loss, asset damage, and legal liabilities.

This excessive waste is mostly due to lack of visibility of the irrigation system. Brodie Bruner, Weathermatic’s Executive Vice President of Sustainability Services noted, “Whenever irrigation is brought into the building management system, we are literally bringing the water utility out of the shadows and into the light. Visibility and access will radically impact water use efficiency and reduce operating costs, with equal benefit in managing landscape and hardscape assets.”

“SiteSage has reached beyond energy alone to include the primary control system for water, which is not the handle on a faucet or toilet, but rather the irrigation controller,” Bruner added. “We commend SiteSage and our first mutual client Arby’s for having the foresight to invest resources into incorporating SmartLink and ultimately delivering our mutual customers a more valuable tool for building management.”
