The Film Detective Signs Broadcast Veteran Dana Hersey to Host OTT Classic Movie Channel

ROCKPORT, Mass. - Jan. 26, 2016 - PRLog -- Respected broadcast veteran  Dana Hersey has been signed to host  The Film Detective’s  new, Over-the-Top (OTT) classic movie channel, streaming on Roku, AppleTV and AmazonFire TV, it was announced Jan. 19 at the annual NATPE Market and Conference in Miami, Fla.

In addition to introducing classic films that have been fully restored, many in high definition – with new films being debuted each month – The Film Detective Classic Movies Channel will now produce original, supplemental, wrap-around programming, hosted by Hersey, with behind-the-scenes and fan-based information on the movies being presented.

Called “the perfect broadcast voice” by the Boston Globe, Hersey was the longtime host of several of New England’s most popular regional shows and is a nationally recognized television and radio voice talent, who has recorded hundreds of narrations, commercials and PSAs.

Hersey is currently the morning drive host on Boston’s WBOQ-FM. He hosted WSBK-TV’s iconic The Movie Loft – one of television’s first shows to feature a host and original, interstitial programming for feature film presentations – for more than two decades. He then hosted WSBK’s We Don’t Knock during the ’80s – the Boston area’s more-raucous version of Huell Howser and California Gold – later moving to WABU-TV to host 68 Movie Loft.

From an intimate, loft setting, Hersey introduced a broad range of films – often featuring the uncut versions of cult classics as well as more mainstream fare or 3D presentations requiring glasses which were distributed locally – and introduced such beloved features as the annual New Year’s Eve Three Stooges marathon … all innovations later copied industrywide.

Commented Phil Hopkins, CEO of the Film Detective, “OTT video revenues are expected to double by 2020 and The Film Detective is positioned to grow with the industry. We are thrilled to have Dana as a member of our team as we explore these new opportunities, as well as continue our relationships in the traditional broadcast space. As someone who grew up in New England, Dana has been a huge part of our local broadcast experience and is incredibly knowledgeable about films and the history of cinema. I look forward to introducing him as movie host to a national audience.”
