2016 Honda Civic Sedan Named 2016 Top Safety Pick+

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Jan. 27, 2016 - PRLog -- Hampton Roads Honda Dealers are proud to announce that the 2016 Honda Civic has added to its long list of awards and accolades with one of the most important awards in the business: Top Safety Pick+.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluates vehicles based on crash safety and advanced accident prevention features, awarding eligible models either their Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award. It's no easy feat to achieve Top Safety Pick+ status; the Civic had to earn the IIHS's top rating—“good”—in all safety tests, including:

● Moderate Overlap Front
● Roof Strength
● Side Impact
● Head Restraint

The Civic also had to earn an “advanced” or “superior” rating in Forward Crash Prevention, which all models equipped with the new Honda Sensing safety features have. New to the Honda lineup, Honda Sensing features include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, lane departure mitigation, forward collision alert, and collision mitigation braking, and they can be had on every trim level of the Civic, from the LX to the top-of-the-line Touring.

While Honda models are known for their safety, there is much more to the 2016 Civic than its impressive suite of safety amenities. Starting with the mid-range EX-T trim, this Civic is the first Honda vehicle to have a turbocharged engine in the North American market, but even the normal engine is impressive:

● The standard 2.0L 4-cylinder is rated at 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque, earning an EPA-estimated 41 highway mpg* with the available CVT.
● The new 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder is capable of 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque and actually has a boost in fuel economy over the standard engine, earning an EPA-estimated 42 highway mpg.*
