FAIRFAX, Va. - Jan. 22, 2016 - PRLog -- Ever since her early volunteer days as a Candy Striper, Jacqulyn Otero has had a passion for healthcare. Now she’s looking forward to bring that passion – and her experience in the field – to her new business, Home Helpers & Direct Link of Fairfax.

Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Direct Link is its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor and an automated medication dispenser. Home Helpers and Direct Link of Fairfax directly serves Fairfax City, Oakton, and Vienna within Fairfax County.

“I started in the healthcare industry volunteering as a ‘Candy Striper’ at our local emergency department. After that experience, I was hooked on the fast-paced atmosphere of healthcare. The rewarding experience of helping people at their most critical time of need led me to volunteer at nursing homes all throughout college and, later, enticed me to join the Army as a Combat Medic,” Otero said. “I am passionate about providing excellent care and I have the background and credentials to bring you exceptional services.”

Otero’s experience and leadership in the medical force was recognized by her appointment as the Medical Department Team Lead for the United States Air Advisor Academy at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey.  As the only female director in the Academy and youngest member of the team, Otero established start-up programs utilized by the USAF Air Education Training Command and advised high profile personnel regarding the latest trends in military medicine.  In 2014, she was selected to re-establish the United States Army Medical Simulation Training Center in Kuwait as their Site Lead for Kuwaiti and U.S. personnel. Today Otero is in the Air Force Air National Guard and continues to actively provide direct patient care as an Aerospace Medical Technician.

Otero earned her Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Walden University while stationed in Kuwait working with the Army. She has been directly involved with healthcare for more than 12 years and has worked in home health care, hospital care and emergency service. Home Helpers is an exciting transition for Otero that will apply her passion for serving the community through health services and leading the industry to a higher standard of quality care.

Home Helpers and Direct Link offers personal care such as grooming, bathing, ambulation, medication management and care management as well as respite care, meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, companionship and transportation. Home Helpers and Direct Link offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs.

With Home Helpers, each individual client receives services tailored to meet their specific needs by caregivers who become an extension of their family. Home Helpers’ full-range of home care services empower clients to live healthier and more rewarding lives in the privacy, safety and comfort of their own homes.

“Every person and every situation is different. I want to sit down, discuss your needs and create a personalized plan that helps you continue to live independently and with a bit more ease. I’ve always made it a point to treat the person – not the injury – and that philosophy will be a big part of Home Helpers too,” Otero said.
