By: Theatre on Tap Theatre on Tap is bringing the popular, Big Easy Award winner to the Nims Black Box Theatre at New Orleans Center for Creative Arts on the weekends of February 19th-28th where it will explore stories of fantasy, budding romance, finding courage out of grief, the strength of friendship, and the hope and optimism of our youth using the universal language of rhythm. Under the direction of Emmy Award and two-time Big Easy Award winning artistic director and principal choreographer Heidi Malnar, performers will bring to life narrative works of dance theatre through tap and live music in an intimate, cabaret-style setting. With the audience on three sides, attendees can expect an immersive evening of rhythmic entertainment. The original production pairs Malnar with leading female New Orleans artists Ainsley Matich, founder of local band Ainsley Matich and The Broken Blues (AMATBB), as the Musical Director and renowned Boutte family member Arséne Delay as the Lead Vocalist. All three have worked together on every Theatre on Tap project since the company’s beginning in 2014. Love Taps will feature a diverse array of music ranging from AMATBB and Delay originals, to Chet Baker, Blossom Dearie, Diana Krall, and Bruno Mars. The performance will also showcase Theatre on Tap’s Youth Ensemble in a sweet and uplifting medley of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows,” and “Rainbow Connection.” In the spirit of community, Love Taps will present performances by Nora Clark, founder of Tap That Brass band and a student-led work by Adrianne Mitchell, founder of Jazz City Tap Fest and director of Kelly School of Dance. Special guest performer Stephani Kammer will also tap her toes in this extravaganza of rhythm. Love Taps will run for two weekends only on February 19, 20, and 21, and 26, 27, and 28 at New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), 2800 Chartres Street. Tickets ($18-$35) are available at theatreontap.com. Theatre on Tap is performing in its third season, bringing together the region’s finest tap dancing talents while training younger generations in this truly American art form. End
