By: BrandRex Network infrastructure solutions provider Brand-Rex has announced that the company has exceeded its ambitious 20 per cent carbon emission reduction targets one year ahead of schedule. This is equivalent to a CO2 equivalent reduction of 24 per cent twelve months ahead of target. In 2009 Brand-Rex become the first company in the IT networking sector to become carbon neutral in all its worldwide operations. This achievement was independently verified by Johnsons Renewables Ltd in accordance with the PAS 2060 carbon neutrality standard launched by the British Standards Institute. “It is a journey we embarked upon in 2009, with our first measurement of the company’s carbon footprint”, explains Kennedy Miller, Brand-Rex Technology and Sustainability Manager. “Since then, investments of £300,000 have resulted in a significant reduction in carbon consumption, saved £1 million in costs and provided for a reduction of some 24% in CO2 emissions. “Our original target was to exceed UK and Scottish government 2020 targets of 34% and 42% respectively. The latest audit showed that we exceeded this target by the end of 2014, achieving a 24% reduction in carbon emissions.” Brand-Rex started the process of becoming carbon neutral with an electricity audit that looked at weekend usage in its facilities. Measures implemented to reduce carbon emissions include electronic invoicing, new skylight roof panels, converting from oil to gas heating and adopting a closed loop water management system. In recent years, the company became the first in the networking sector to introduce to market carbon-neutral cabling products In 2015 Brand-Rex also achieved accreditation to the ISO 500001 energy management standard, further demonstrating its continuing commitment to maintaining a sustainable working environment. Top sustainability credentials are increasingly becoming an essential ingredient in the company’s commercial offering. Over the last year alone, Brand-Rex has won a number of contracts around the world including campus universities projects, government departments and private corporations for whom environmental credentials has been the deciding factor. Real evidence, if any were needed, that being green wins business. -ends- ABOUT BRAND-REX Brand-Rex, part of the Leviton Group, is a global operation, designing, developing and manufacturing the most sophisticated, high performance copper and fibre cabling systems for communications and extreme environment applications.
