By: Michelle Vaughan Real Estate 1) Public Ownership - more public access with increased open spaces with various zones appealing to different members of the community 2) Destination - enhanced piers, shoreline and beach access, and a continuous seawall - better connection between the waterfront and commercial areas 3) Continuous Public Walkway - two east west paths: the seawall (pedestrian only) and the Spirit Trail along Argyle (bike & pedestrian) 4) Shoreline Edge - maintaining natural area with beach restoration, foreshore enhancement and tidal protection 5) Arts & Culture - public art, more plaza type space and a new stage in John Lawson 6) Community Arts - new arts buildings near the Ferry Building that promote better community arts education and development programs 7) Heritage Values - the community’s link to the waterfront is maintained and nurtured 8) Waterfront Related Commercial Activities - commercial areas that create vibrancy in the area such as bistros, boat rental, seasonal food services 9) Accessibility - better north south connections as well as east west improving access to waterfront - improved pier function - eventual vehicular closure of Argyle 10) Sailing Club - improved Hollyburn Sailing Club Structure allowing for expanded functioning such as boat rental, food services, community space, and public faciities 11) Building Scale and Character - open waterfront that maximizes green space and with plazas and walkways with limited buildings that will be sensitive to the areas environment and contribute to public use and enjoyment A team consisting of experts from the Planning, Parks, Engineering and Communications Departments is in the process of consulting with stakeholders and residents to determine necessary revisions to the plan. The desired outcome of this consultation is to revise and determine the priorities and details of putting the Waterfront Concept Plan into motion. It is anticipated that these results will be analyzed and presented and then reported to Council in Spring 2016. Council will then have the opportunity to either endorse the plan for further consultation with stakeholders and the community or request further information. Many residents of West Vancouver have been eagerly anticipating this development for quite some time. The municipality has shown great care and concern in developing this plan with equal consideration given to stakeholder and public input as to the implementation. West Vancouver is often referred to as the Crown Jewel of Vancouver and actualizing this proposal will add vibrancy to the area and bring even more enjoyment to residents and visitors alike.
