By: Eckerd Kids Honorees of the 2016 Brevard Walk of Fame include: Apollo 11 Astronaut and Founder of Share Space Foundation, Buzz Aldrin; CEO of Harris Corporation, Bill Brown; Founding member of Dorough Lupus Foundation and Backstreet Boys member, Howie Dorough; Brevard County School Board member, John Craig; and Space Coast Economic Development Commission President, Lynda Weatherman. “This event has become an opportunity to not only recognize established leaders, but inspire new ones,” said Eckerd Kid’s Director of Community Services, Stanley Brizz. “We’re also proud that the Brevard Walk of Fame has annually helped shine a deserving light on other local non-profits and community leaders that represent the large heartedness of Brevard County. We are also appreciative of sponsors like Health First, BIMDA, and Parrish Medical Center that have shown their support to improving the lives of families in Brevard.” By honoring today’s leaders and notable figures for their outstanding commitment to our community, Eckerd Kids raises awareness of the positive impact their efforts have made in the lives of others, and inspires tomorrow’ The Brevard Walk of Fame™ begins with a VIP reception. Honorees and guests will walk the red carpet while paparazzi vie for the best photos. Oscar style red carpet interviews will take place and guests can mingle with some of the most prominent individuals in Central Florida. The black tie gala includes dinner, live entertainment, the Children’s Hero of the Year Awards, and the presentation of the nights prestigious Honorees. Brevard Walk of Fame™ is the premier charitable event in Brevard County. Last year’s event raised $100,000 in needed funds to help rapidly re-house families experiencing homelessness. In addition to honoring the selected individuals, another goal of this year’s event is to raise funds to continue to support Eckerd’s Family Support Services program, which rapidly re-houses Brevard families experiencing homelessness and helps them to create a plan to remain housed. In addition, financial support will help Eckerd continue to provide critical child abuse prevention services as well as substance abuse prevention and intervention programs in the community.
