TORONTO - Jan. 14, 2016 - PRLog -- A little shake, rattle and roll never hurt anyone; on the contrary, doing it at the office while your work, can have exceptional health benefits—just make sure you’ve got headphones on for your Ritchie Valens album.

Sedentary lifestyles including working 8-10 hours a day with very little movement, can contribute to heart and circulatory complications that can in turn lower life expectancy. Lack of movement dramatically affects vascular reactivity and blood glucose regulation. Over time these contribute to heart disease, diabetes and in extreme situations, deep vein thrombosis which can result in stroke or vascular embolism. Sedentary jobs have risen by 83% since 1950, and today, 86% of workers sit all day. Canadians spend about 10 waking hours every day sitting – whether at their desks, computers and other devices or watching television (according to the Conference Board of Canada). The time to move is now!

Patrick Harrison is a foremost Canadian expert on active sitting solutions (otherwise known as the antidote to the increasingly detrimental ‘sitting disease’) and he’s a true believer in putting his ‘Just Move’ mantra to everyday use—even as you work. He explains that, “What we need to resolve to do this year is to move. Just find ways to move every 20-30 minutes and change positions while we work, so that we can reduce one of the biggest health epidemics of our generation." Patrick continues, “People initially thought standing was the solution to sitting but standing is not moving, so we need to make sure that whether we sit or stand we get moving throughout the day to keep our circulation and lymphatic systems active.”

Some of Patrick’s tips include:

Walk and Talk: make a point to stand and walk every time you get a call or if someone comes to your desk
Set an alarm: have an alarm on your phone or computer sound off every 20-30 minutes as reminder to get up and stretch or move.
Rock and Roll: during a break, do some stretches and rolls for your back, legs, hip and neck. And if you have the CoreChair or another active sitting chair, do some one minute exercises to get your circulation moving (here are some simple moves (https://www.corechair.com/corefit/) you can do for 60 seconds, every hour)
Walking meetings: if you and a co-worker are discussing an idea or project, talk about it while walking down the hall or take a quick stroll outside—fresh ideas are sparked with fresh air.
