New tax laws in Albania may open doors to many investors, advises Healy Consultants

Jan. 14, 2016 - PRLog -- 2016 may be a key year for the Albanian nation, as they currently struggle to find new investors from abroad. The country is currently not a member state of the European Union and seems closed to the regional developments.

However, following the example of several of its regional competitors, the country lowered taxation rate in two ways and now SMEs can enjoy a lower tax burden and increased operating efficiency. But how exactly was the tax burden lowered?

Firstly, from January 1st a new official fiscal package entered into operations that replaces the old taxation system and introduces new zero tax regime for small companies with annual turnover up to 5 million Euro. This comes as welcome news to foreign investors looking to start from scratch and enter into this curious market.

Secondly, a lowered 5% corporate taxation was introduced for small entities with up to a turnover of €8 million sales per annum. This is almost a 40% decrease from the previous 7.5% rate. As a result even some medium enterprises can now benefit from doing business in Albania and even the whole Balkan Peninsula.
