Harrisburg University Invites Community to Lecture on Building Your Financial Nest Egg!

Jan. 13, 2016 - PRLog -- We often hear why it is important to build a personal nest egg. But, regardless of age, it is very important to know how to start building your financial nest egg. That’s the topic of a lecture and workshop, Money Marathon, scheduled for 5:30 pm to 7 pm, April 18th at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. There is no charge for the event and it is open to the community.

In addition to learning “why” and “how” to build a nest egg, this seminar includes reasons to continue building your nest egg if you already started this good habit. Both students and adults will see how saving and investing is equivalent to a “financial marathon.” Anyone can compete in this type of marathon. The “training” may not be as intense as you think. Do not worry, there will be no physical activity during this presentation!

The event, held during Financial Literacy Month, includes announcing the winners for the HU/Harrisburg School District “What Does Financial Literacy Mean to Me?” contest.

The speaker, Doug Hassenbein, has been working for the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities since 2008. He serves as Assistant Investor Education Coordinator. Doug pursued this position based on his personal interest to continually learn more about basic saving and investing concepts. He likes to see how basic investment knowledge can help anyone reach “real world” financial goals. Doug began his career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2001. He started in the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services at Hamburg Center as a Human Resource Analyst. He then worked as Business Continuity & Disaster Planning Coordinator with the Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System. Doug was awarded the Claritas Investment Certificate 2015 from the CFA Institute. He graduated from Shippensburg University in 2001 with a B.A. in Communications / Journalism.
