Join Julie Harris and Stephen Roane for a glamorous "Evening with George and Ira Gershwin" at the Oliver Wolcott Library on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 7:00- 8:00 p.m.

LITCHFIELD, Conn. - Jan. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- The music of the Gershwin brothers has long been a part of the American consciousness. The opening clarinet glissando from Rhapsody in Blue, the taxi horn theme from An American in Paris and the songs - I Got Rhythm, Embraceable You, The Man I Love, Someone to Watch Over Me, Fascinating Rhythm, and so many others - are instantly recognizable. Even the mention of the name “Gershwin” brings to mind the glamour and sophistication of the 1920s and 1930s, personified by the brothers who helped to give a musical voice to the time. Julie recounts the lives of the tuneful brothers with her songs and narration, accompanied by Stephen Roane on guitar.

Julie Harris began her professional singing career in 2002 in the home of jazz - Kansas City. She has performed at the Blue Room in the Historic Jazz District in Kansas City, as well as the world-famed Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. She returned to Connecticut in 2007 and four years ago formed the Harris/Roane Duo with her Music Director, and guitarist/bassist Stephen Roane. Julie specializes in The Great American Songbook and is particularly fond of the music of Gershwin, Porter, Ellington, Arlen and Mercer. She also writes her own songs. Her voice has been described as, “smoldering,” and “a cross between Julie London and Peggy Lee.” Her website is julieharrismusic.com.
