First-ever Reproduction Of The Suppressed First Edition Of Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland

NILES, Ill. - Jan. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- We are delighted to announce the availability of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Perfectly recreated from multiple suppressed first edition copies of Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece, it is now available in its original format for the first time since originally offered by Macmillan and Co. in 1865. It contains all 42 of John Tenniel’s famed illustrations.

Carroll’s and Tenniel’s displeasure with the Clarendon Press printing execution of the first edition, first printing, caused it to be recalled, leaving only 22 known copies and only 10 in their original bindings, which are significantly different than the following approved first editions.  We consulted multiple copies to prepare this edition and it is true to the original bindings and plates in regards to the gilt stamping and fonts, which were significantly altered in later versions from R. Clay and Son. It’s what makes ours an authentic first edition replica.

Carroll’s and Tenniel’s primary objections to the edition came because of poor printing that resulted in smudges, in bleed-through on the pages and blotting on the illustrations, making the edition difficult to read.  We have complied with their wishes in that regard, cleaning up those issues while preserving the original text as it was originally typeset instead of using the version re-set by Clay.

With first-edition copies running in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, we are delighted to be able to offer this painstaking replica at an affordable price for book-lovers everywhere.
