Savant Books Announces the Release of A. G. Hayes' Newest Novel, "The Chemical Factor"

"When the Queen Mary was dry-docked in Long Beach, I knew I had to write a book about her," says Hayes. "I hopped into my MG-TC and immediately drove there to visit her. The ship was being torn apart and rebuilt as a ship/hotel, and was, at the time, off-limits to the public. Armed only with hutzpah and an official-looking clip board, I climbed the gangplank, stood on the promenaded deck and began taking notes while workers and officials walked past. I walked her hallowed decks and rooms unchallenged as if I were sailing with my wife, who had crossed over on the Queen Mary, from Southampton to New York, in 1948. 'Cheek of the devil,' my mother used to say, the plot for THE CHEMICAL FACTOR instantly began composing itself in my mind. Then, once I'd written the manuscript, I thought, Dear God! What have I done? It hadn't once occurred to me that so venerable a ship, like so venerable a world as ours, so big and seemingly indestructible, could ever be in jeopardy."
