MUMBAI, India - Jan. 9, 2016 - PRLog -- Retail therapy has an undeniable charm for each woman. Walking into a garment store, browsing through all the lovely colors and patterns, imagining self in those amazing outfits and after much deliberation, choosing what you think is the best, is like owning the world.
But you would have had that experience where, your favorite dress didn’t look the same after you brought it home. It didn’t suit you as much as you thought it did. One thing to be remembered is that clothes look different, with you and without you.

Here are some tips to help you identify your personal colors and designs.

1.      Find the shades that support you

You must have heard people say that dusky people shouldn’t wear dark colors since it makes their complexion all the more dull, while fair complexioned people should wear dark or bright colors so that they don’t look pale.
But if you have noticed, some the dark colors enhance do suit dusky people. In fact, it depends upon your features, eye color, hair color and body shape too.
So, first thing to do is, find out whether your complexion and features are compatible with the dark, light, bright or dull shades. Also, note that sometimes, more than one set of shades might suit you; both dark and bright, both dull and light or sometimes all of them.

2.      Find your designs
You might find the type of shades that suit you. But in spite of that, some clothes in the same shade may not look great on you. The reason might be the designs. For some, horizontal lines may not look good and for others, floral designs may not. For some, the graffiti work could work magic. Here are some common designs you could test with:
• Horizontal/Vertical lines
• Polka dots – small and big
• Modern abstract designs
• Floral
• Geometric designs
• Plain

3.      Colors for you
Now that you are clear on whether lighter or brighter shades suit you, you need to pick your colors. When I say pick the designs, shades, colors etc., it means that you need to try each of those designs or colors and see what they do to your skin under normal sunlight. You could even take photos to compare the effect between various patterns and shades.
If you have noticed, when you go to a shopping mall, they use bright lights that brighten up your skin tone as well as the garments’ colors. This is why the clothes don’t look as beautiful on you at home, as in the shopping mall. So, it is safer to know the colors that suit you to avoid similar issues when shopping for clothes that look good on you.
When you try a particular color, also make it a point to try its other shades. For instance, when you try purple, also try lavender or lilac. When you try light blue, also see how the sky blue, aqua blue and copper-sulphate-blue looks on you.
You may not have all these shades with you, but you can try now what you have and later on, try the shades in a garment shop (under normal lighting).

4.      Try combinations
Given above are the step by step mantra to find your personal colors and designs. But finding your shades doesn’t necessarily mean that you ignore other shades completely. Sometimes, the shades that don’t suit you might work like magic when paired up with other colors.
For instance, suppose yellow doesn’t suit you. Yellow and green are an evergreen combination seen to enhance the tone for most of the people. Similarly yellow and red, yellow and pink are all bright and happy combinations. So, next time before you abandon a color completely, do try on some combinations.

5.      Always try. ALWAYS!
The best part about shopping malls is the trial room. Many people have the habit of buying instinctively. They find an awesome piece of clothing and without even trying it on, pack them. But that awesome dress may not look as good on you as you hoped.
The key to finding best clothes is trying them on. Some dresses may not look good on the rack. They might have abstract meaningless designs and boring colors. But you never know, it might be the best piece of clothing you have ever owned. You‘re probably wondering how to find such dresses. Initially, check if any of your personal color (or a close shade) is present in the dress. Next, place the dress against your skin and see how the design and color look on you.
This piece of information will be sufficient for your brain to imagine how the dress might look on you.

6.      Observe
This has nothing to do with technicalities. Like you have good hair day and bad hair days, you will have well-dressed days. Observe yourself when people say that you look beautiful. Make a note of the color and design you are wearing that day. Try similar color clothes and if they suit you, add them to your personal colors. One should try all colors, shades and patterns in their lifetime. Knowing what really works on you could come in handy while doing some serious shopping for any event. The final, additional point you need to keep in mind is to accessorize right.
