Capital City Electrical Completes New Addition to Atlanta History Center’s Historic Museum

Atlanta History Center enlists the help of commercial electrical contractor, Capital City Electrical to to give the Atlanta History Museum a 21st century face lift.

ATLANTA - Jan. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- The Atlanta History Center announces the new addition and renovation project successfully completed to its Atlanta History Museum. This project, a collaboration between the Atlanta History Center and commercial electrical contractors, Capital City Electrical, began in July 2014 and was completed in a little over 14 months.

The Atlanta History Center is located on 33 acres in historic Buckhead. Officially opening in 1926, the Atlanta History Museum at the Atlanta History Center is one of the largest historical museums in the nation., The Atlanta History Museum is a key icon for local residents and tourists, housing documents dating back to the first settlers in Georgia to present-day artifacts.

With so much history, the renovation of the museum had to be completed with extreme care, and in stages, to allow for the exhibits to remain open to the public.

“The museum was in great need of a new look. We expanded the main entrance to create a lobby large enough for large group gatherings, when they attend the museum. The makeover also includes upgrades of several exhibits and improved lighting to highlight specific exhibit features. This expansion also paves the way for our next project - the relocation of Cycloroma, a move that we are all very excited about,” explains Jackson McQuigg, the Director of the Atlanta History Museum.

The initial renovation work was stalled for months, before the project was awarded to Capital City Electrical. The delay was due to cost prohibitive architectural designs. However, Capital City Electrical reworked the lighting and electrical system designs to include modern, more energy efficient light fixtures, while maintaining the quality and integrity of the look and feel of the museum.

Charlie Brooks, the Project Lead at Capital City Electrical adds, “we made sure our work was orderly and executed when the museum was not occupied, so all exhibits could remain open throughout the entire renovation. Our value engineering approach allowed us to give the museum a much needed electrical upgrade without taking away from the great historic feel of the building. Our Master Electricians worked with the Museum Director and Owner, every step of the way, to ensure the project was followed as planned, with no additional costs.”

The new addition to the Atlanta History Museum officially opened in September 2015, and is now home to over a dozen new exhibits. Capital City Electrical looks forward to partnering with the Atlanta History Center in the future for upcoming electrical maintenance and additional renovation projects, as the museum continues to expand.
