Cherie Buck-Hutchison's Conjuring the Consecrated Comes to Bokeh Gallery

PHOENIX - Jan. 7, 2016 - PRLog -- Shade Projects is proud to present Conjuring the Consecrated, the solo photography exhibition of Cherie Buck-Hutchison in Bokeh Gallery. Conjuring the Consecrated is an exhibition of the artist’s latest work of digitally composited photos manipulated to create meaning relevant to contemporary issues. She is revisiting her personal history “to divine a feminine narrative within patriarchal religious practices while juxtaposing dual imagery with the intent to create a space for female religious leadership where currently there may be none”. Buck-Hutchison composites decades uniting relatives from the 50s, 60s and 70s, creating a magical southwest of the future where women enjoy the same religious privileges and responsibilities as men. Buck-Hutchison goes on to say, “In an era when women’s rights are being promoted on an international level, it is difficult, yet critical to compare the issues of women in extreme situations to those of women enjoying the relative freedom within a democracy”. “Buck-Hutchison’s work is striking and truly recreates a nostalgia of a time past while raising important questions creating a tension within the works”, says Shade Projects Curator Nicole Royse.

Cherie Buck-Hutchison a talented multimedia artist who is creating amazing work, most recently focusing on digitally manipulated photography, ceramics, painting and poetry.Traditionally trained she received her Bachelors of Fine Art in Intermedia from Arizona State University. Currently Buck-Hutchison is a member and co-president of Eye Lounge Artist Collective in Downtown Phoenix. She has exhibited his artwork in both solo and group exhibitions throughout Arizona at various galleries including Eye Lounge, the Frontal Lobe Space and Gallery, Vision Gallery, ASU Night Gallery, ASU Step Gallery, Shade Gallery at the monOrchid, the Shemer Art Center and Museum and the Phoenix Art Museum.

Please join us for the Opening Reception of Conjuring the Consecrated on First Friday, February 5th from 6-10pm. The Closing Reception will be held on Friday, February 19th from 6-10pm featuring an intimate evening with the artist and an opportunity to hear the artist speak about her artwork and creative process. Conjuring the Consecrated will be on display in Bokeh Gallery at the monOrchid from February 5th until February 28th, 2016.

The monOrchid is located at 214 E. Roosevelt Street in the heart of Phoenix's downtown Roosevelt Row Arts District. The building is open daily and the exhibition may be viewed during business hours.
