STAMFORD, Conn. - Jan. 6, 2016 - PRLog -- Tsveta Petrova will speak at the World Affairs Forum on January 20 at the Main Library (Ferguson Library), DiMattia Building, Third Floor Auditorium in Stamford on “The European Migrant Crisis”. The program, which is partially sponsored by GE Asset Management, will begin at 5:45 p.m. with networking and refreshments, followed by the presentation at 6:15 p.m. The program will conclude at 7:30 p.m.

As an Analyst with the Eurasia Group, Tsveta Petrova focuses on the politics, political economy and foreign policies of Central and Eastern European countries. Prior to joining Eurasia Group, she held fellowships at the Davis Center at Harvard University, the National Endowment for Democracy and, most recently, at the Harriman Institute at Columbia University.

“Historically, [Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia] have little direct experience with people from the Middle East and North Africa,” Petrova said in a CBS News, MoneyWatch article on September 14, 2015, citing their poor track record integrating poor, ethnic minorities.  “Many in this part of Europe see a flood of non-Christian migrants as a threat to their cultural identity and values, as well as a strain on the public purse.”

She has written several publications in both academic and policy journals, including in The Journal of Democracy and Foreign Policy. Additionally, Petrova is the author of the book “Exporting Revolution,” published in 2014 by Cambridge University Press.

Petrova holds a BA and a PhD in Political Science from Cornell University.

The cost for admission to the event is $20 per person for the general public and is free for 2015-2016 Forum and AR Series members, faculty and students. The Ferguson Library is located at the corner of Broad St. and Bedford St. in Stamford.  For reservations please contact the World Affairs Forum at 203-356-0340 or email info@worldaffairsforum.org.
