DARIEN, Conn. - Jan. 4, 2016 - PRLog -- This January, the Geary Gallery of Darien is proud to present “Look, Touch, and Feel” featuring the unique paintings of Ridgefield, CT resident, Hans Fischer. His exhibit runs January 5 – 30 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

Featured Artist, January: Hans Fischer

Born in Holland and raised in Harrison, NY, Hans Fischer is a longtime resident of Ridgefield, CT, where he maintains his art studio. After college, his early years as a “starving artist” were interrupted by a stint in the U.S. Army and life in the 1960s. His painting career was further put on hold by corporate America and a career in graphic design and art direction. In 1989, Fischer established his own graphic design company.

But a deep and profound love of art and painting pulled hard, and Fischer eventually was able to focus full-time on painting, which he has done for the last decade.

Hans Fischer truly enjoys the experience and process of creating art and his sincere hope is that emotion is reflected in his work and felt by the observer.

He likes the idea of visually stimulating a person’s curiosity—to get close, touch, and actually feel the surfaces; to connect with the work in a physical way as well as a visually satisfying one.

His unique approach to painting essentially explores the mixing of mediums—visually merging media, texture, color, and strong composition. He blends abstract with representational “imagery” to create the sense of a place expressed through patterns of light and color.

In many of his pieces, Fischer strives to capture the quality of light, specifically “The patterns that appear as you turn a corner on a clear sunny morning when one side of the street is so bright you need to squint, while the shadows are so deep you can’t see into them. All you see is light and dark, color and shape, no detail—an abstract painting idea,” he explains.

Fischer employs powerful brushwork and bold color relationships to create complex “organic” textures. He works with encaustic (wax based paint), oil, and acrylic—often combining them—to achieve unique, vibrant, translucent surfaces with strong textural qualities that engage viewers and stir emotions.

Fischer’s work is shown in galleries and is in private collections in the U.S. and abroad. To view Fischer’s work, visit our online gallery: http://www.gearygallery.com/?artists=hans-fischer
