Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente makes Ohio’s presidential ballot; O’Malley doesn’t
By: Rocky 2016 LLC
Mr. De La Fuente gathered the required number of delegates and valid signatures within the allotted time frame to qualify for Ohio’s upcoming March 15th primary. However, if you think this is a fluke, you would be mistaken.
De La Fuente has actually qualified to participate in more Democratic primaries than former Gov. Martin O’Malley, who has missed making the ballots in Ohio and Texas among other states. In fact, De La Fuente only trails former Sec. Clinton and Sen. Sanders because, in some states, only party operatives behind closed doors get to determine which candidates will be given ballot access. This assures that political “elites,” who have maintained the status quo, gain an advantage over candidates like De La Fuente, who might not be as easy to control.
While he has been facing an uphill battle, this “Rocky” is a lot like another underdog we all know; he never gives up.
De La Fuente is already the first candidate in Michigan’s history to meet the oppressive barriers of a 1972 law, which otherwise only provided ballot access to “brand name” candidates appointed by the Secretary of State. In Michigan, a candidate like Rocky is only given seven days to accumulate 12,832 valid signatures; an impossible task… unless you are this real-life Rocky.
De La Fuente and his team collected 1,819 petitions that had 20,166 signatures on them, and he officially qualified on the Michigan ballot on December 29, 2015. He also qualified for Nebraska and is expected to qualify for North Carolina via petition next week as well, bringing his total to 17 states with dozens more expected to follow in the next several weeks as their decision dates approach.
Beyond his tenacity, De La Fuente brings a fresh perspective to the presidential field on the Democratic side.
He is an extremely successful businessman in multiple industries, who has vast international experience. He also has been active in party politics, serving as the first Hispanic American Delegate At-Large (what is now known as a Superdelegate)
Unlike other traditional candidates, Rocky possesses unique “people” skills. He is as comfortable breaking bread with the residents of a homeless center as he is attending a State Dinner. De La Fuente is also passionate about listening to everyone and providing them with the voice they have been missing in Washington, D.C.
While the media and Democratic Party have generally ignored him, Rocky has assembled a strong campaign team and has already built a large constituency particularly among the Hispanic community and other minorities, including millennials. Perhaps this is because he does something very different; he listens rather than lectures. He believes the Constitution begins with the word “We” because the collective wisdom of our nation is superior to the limited ideas of a single individual.
From the look of things, the “Big Tent” party better begin to make a little more room inside its tent because Rocky does not look like he is going to go away any time soon.
Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente is living proof that the American Dream can be achieved by those who are inspired to pursue it. He has an amazing record of overcoming obstacles and achieving success. From being licensed by the FAA to fly single engine planes at the age of 20 to owning 28 automobile dealerships and becoming Chairman of the National Dealers Council for the third largest automobile manufacturer in the world by the age of 28, Rocky is in a league by himself. He also created a banking network in 1982 to help address an economic crisis in Mexico and established impressive real estate holdings throughout the United States while generating thousands of new jobs along the way. Rocky holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics (Magna Cum Laude) and exudes a passion for his country and for those who seek the opportunity to fulfill their version of the American Dream.
