Event Synopsis:

Qui Tam lawsuits continue to proliferate as whistleblowers are emboldened by the incentives and anti-retaliation provisions of the False Claims Act, and increasingly knowledgeable about complex fraud. As a relator, a private citizen with knowledge of fraud against the government, could file a lawsuit on the government’s behalf and by doing so, he/she would obtain a percentage of whatever the government will recover. However, due to the statute of limitation, a qui tam lawsuit should be filed within six (6) years of the violation, but no later than three (3) years after the date the government have known about the violation. Failure to take action within the specified time limit will invalidate the right to receive financial reward for reporting the fraudulent conduct.
