The plaintiffs, two New York women, claim the WEN products cause severe and possibly permanent damage to hair, including hair loss, breakage, scalp irritation and infection, according to the complaint. The two women suffered severe hair loss, including bald spots, after using the WEN products. The companies have marketed the products extensively utilizing television infomercials and advertising with celebrity testimonials that claim the products drastically improve the health and appearance of hair in just one use. WEN Conceals Customer Complaints WEN received numerous complaints from its customers about its products causing hair loss. Rather than disclosing their customers were complaining about hair loss, the companies denied having received complaints and intentionally concealed negative reviews made by customers, according to the complaint. The negative reviews about the WEN products would have warned unsuspecting consumers and helped them avoid their injuries, the complaint alleges. Attorney Jeanne Lahiff, lead counsel for the plaintiffs, says that the companies have continued to market the products, using a different name, the "new WEN," although there appears to be no material change in the formula. Ms. Lahiff said her firm has been contacted by many other women located throughout the country who experienced similar injuries.
