WASHINGTON, December 15, Sputnik Press - Office - According to a Sputnik.Polls survey conducted by the British company Populus for the Sputnik international information agency and radio, 26% of respondents in the US said they did not know about Russia’s operation in Syria.

Answering the question, “Do you know about Russia’s operation in Syria?” 90% of respondents in the United Kingdom said that they knew about the developments in Syria. Those surveyed in Turkey and Germany were also well informed, with 87% in each country responding positively to the same question; in the US, the number was also high at 74%.
Many of those surveyed expressed support for the Russian operation in Syria. Over a half of respondents in Germany (51%), 42% in the United Kingdom and 35% of Americans aware of Russia's operation in Syria supported the operation. Only in Turkey were a majority of people against Russia’s campaign in Syria, with 64% voicing discontent while only 17% supported Russia.
Most Germans (63%), half of British respondents (50%) and 30% of Americans who know about Russia’s operation in Syria thought that Turkey was not justified in shooting down the Russian jet. Whereas, 71% of Turkish respondents supported those who ordered the plane to be shot down.
The survey was conducted by the British company Populus on December 2-8, 2015. A total of 4,083 people in four countries took part in the survey: the United Kingdom (1,067), the United States (1,005), Germany (1,005) and Turkey (1,006).  People from various regions and of different ages and sexes took part in the poll. The confidence interval in each country was +/-3.1 percent, with a confidence coefficient of 95 percent.
