Talented Student Musicians Release Single With Defiant Message Against Terrorism

By: 7/7 Tavistock Square Memorial Trust

LONDON - Dec. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- 14th December 2015: Today, a group of talented young musicians release their debut single, Hometown City, with proceeds from sales to be donated across three charities: The 7/7 Tavistock Square Memorial Trust, Association Francaise des Victimes du Terrorism and Awards for Young Musicians.

The single was inspired by the decennial 7/7 anniversary earlier this year to pay tribute to the unbelievable resilience of Londoners in the face of those attacks. The single was then updated given the recent terrorist atrocities in Paris and its message has taken on an even greater significance.

The young Londoner behind the project and the single wishes to remain unidentified. He is only known as Falcon Fields. However, he has composed the following three statements:

The inspiration behind the song:

“Music is like numbers. Universally recognisable. Infinite with possibilities. That’s why I hope Hometown City resonates not only with the citizens of London and Paris but anyone in the free world who cherishes their right to live without fear. Loss may be music’s eternal subject. But not losing is its eternal point.”

The reason behind the anonymity:

“This project is about the collective, the community, the city. Taking individual credit wouldn’t just diminish the song. It would devalue everything it’s supposed to stand for. So think of me like Banksy. Just without the wit, the balaclava and all the other cool stuff.”

Thoughts on charities:

“I’m delighted the proceeds are going to three very worth causes. Two of them are working to commemorate and help innocent victims of the attacks in London and Paris. The third is also extremely important to me as it provides essential funding and other support to help young musicians nurture their talents. Good people with pure motives doing great things.”

The single also represents the collaboration of some extremely talented students and is the first release from the three musicians involved.

The lead vocalist, Zola Bridgey, 16, is a student at the BRIT School.

The backing vocalist, Amanda Ward, 17, studies at Havering Sixth Form College.

The pianist, Chris Hatwell, 19, an undergraduate at Ravensbourne, is a direct beneficiary of Awards for Young Musicians’ support.

The artist responsible for the music video is Rosie Reed, 23, a graduate of The Ruskin School of Art, who is now in her first year the Royal College of Art.

The social media drive is being led by Oliver Green, 19, and Joe Weiland, 18. They also represent Falcon Fields. Oli, a model for Burberry, will be attending NYU Tisch School of the Arts to study drama next year while Joe, a highly promising young filmmaker, is currently waiting to hear back from Oxford University after interviewing to read English Literature. Both are currently on a gap year.

The the music was recorded at State of the Ark Studios in Richmond.

A copy of the recording is available upon request.

About the charities:

7/7 Tavistock Square Memorial Trust

The Trust hosts an annual 7/7 Memorial Lecture to provide a lasting positive remembrance to those who lost their lives across all four 7/7 sites and to acknowledge the courage of the survivors and first responders.  The Trust is also currently fundraising for a memorial in Tavistock Square Gardens, the site most closely associated with the events of 7/7.  The memorial will provide a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives on the No. 30 bus and celebrate the courage and resilience of the survivors, the emergency services, and those members of the public who did what they could to help. www.tavistocksquarememorialtrust.org

Association Francaise des Victimes du Terrorisme

The charity was created in 2009 by Guillaume Denoix de Saint Marc and the Association of Families of the UTA DC10.  It has the sponsorship of the former French Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin, and former Prime Minister of Spain, José María Aznar.  It was founded to allow terrorism victims to receive personalised psychological and legal support following their trauma. www.afvt.org

Awards for Young Musicians

Awards for Young Musicians (AYM) helps young people with exceptional musical potential from lower income families overcome the barriers they face to achieving their ambitions to excel in music making.  They fundraise continuously and do all they can to give holistic, individual support to young musicians in need.  This involves training teachers to spot young peoples’ music potential, targeting and nurturing emerging talent, funding local talent nationwide through annual grants and leading new thinking, and action on talent development. www.a-y-m.org.uk
