DAVENPORT, Fla. - Dec. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- We all know that Christmas is a time for giving – and Feltrim Group is giving back by making a pledge to contribute to the American Red Cross Centennial campaign, which aims to give the ultimate gift and help save children’s lives.

To mark 100 years of water safety, the Red Cross launched the Centennial Campaign – a multi-year effort to lower drowning rates by 50 percent in 50 local communities where those rates exceed the national average. Since the launch in 2014, children and adults have started swim lessons and are learning lifesaving water safety skills. That’s thousands of people who may not have had the opportunity to learn if not for the Centennial Campaign.

Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children aged one to four than any other cause, except birth defects.

Top Central Florida developer and agent, Feltrim Group, has pledged that beginning in July 2016 it will donate $145 per house closed in Balmoral at Waters Edge, to the American Red Cross.

A luxury lakeside development, Balmoral at Waters Edge has 245 units, equalling a total of $35,525 set to be raised for the American Red Cross.

Chief Executive Officer, Garrett Kenny, says, “It’s a tragic fact that every day, approximately 10 people in the United States die from unintentional drowning, and two of these are children aged 14 or younger. What’s more, for every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency care.

“Christmas is a time when we particularly remember those in need, which is why Feltrim Group has decided to support the American Red Cross Centennial Campaign to reduce the risk of children drowning in Central Florida.”

For the past 100 years, the American Red Cross has been helping millions of kids, teens and adults learn how to swim and become lifeguards and instructors, so the water can be a safer place for everyone.

The American Red Cross created the first national water safety program in the U.S. – and today it’s still the gold standard for aquatics training. All of that training is making a difference. In the last century, the Red Cross has helped to reduce accidental drowning by nearly 90 percent nationwide.

The Centennial Campaign is comprised of six expert-recommended prevention techniques:

1) Learn-to-Swim classes: These courses build water survival, safety and swimming skills, with a strong emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety.

2) Water-safety education—for children and adults: This program teaches children how to make safe decisions around the water.  Parents and caregivers are given the essentials of water safety, so they can make well-informed decisions about safe behavior in and around the water for their children and themselves.

3) Pediatric CPR training for parents/caregivers: For every family with a child enrolled at a participating facility, parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to attend a Red Cross Pediatric CPR/AED course for free.

4) Training lifeguards and junior lifeguards: The Red Cross will assess community needs and identify appropriate candidates for lifeguard training at a participating facility. Estimates indicate that U.S. lifeguards rescue more than 100,000 persons from drowning annually.

5) Training Water Safety Instructors: As an elite group of certified swim instructors, water safety instructors bring expert training content and educational skills to help a community gain essential water safety and swimming skills.

6) Raising awareness: Finally, this program aims to change the behavior of parents and caregivers by empowering them to be actively involved in drowning prevention. They are encouraged to apply their new skills and knowledge every time they are near water.

The Red Cross Centennial Campaign is intended to provide training and education over a three-to-five-year period to individuals who would not otherwise participate.
