Follow on Google News | Bokeh Gallery Presents "Surfaces", the Photography of Joseph PodlesnikBy: the monorchid “Through his lens Podlesnik brilliantly captures unusual imagery, highlighting vivid colors, stunning patterns and bold lines enticing the viewer to look closer at the surface,” says Shade Projects Curator, Nicole Royse. This exhibition showcases a small selection of photographs from this book and recently shot work that features imagery that is pure, unusual, complicated and at times perplexing to the eye. Podlesnik says, “I see photography not only as a window but as a flat surface, interrupting or stunting logical perspectival space; I see photography as painting, as a working attempt to see shape, color and pattern, with an interest in figure/ground spatial relationships, much in the way that painters work.” Traditionally trained with a BFA in Drawing and Painting from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and an MFA in Drawing and Painting from Cornell University, he is currently Associate Professor of Art Foundations at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh - Online Division, and an Adjunct Professor of Art at Stockton University. He has self-published two photo books, Phoenix and Surfaces in addition to being featured in numerous online and print publications. Podlesnik has exhibited his artwork both nationally and internationally and this exhibition will mark his second solo exhibition in Bokeh Gallery. Please join us for the Opening Reception of Surfaces on First Friday, January 1st from 6-10pm. The Closing Reception will be held on Thursday, January 14th from 6-10pm featuring an intimate evening with the artist and an opportunity to hear the artist speak about his artwork and creative process. Surfaces will be on display in Bokeh Gallery at the monOrchid from January 1st until January 31st, 2016. The monOrchid is located at 214 E. Roosevelt Street in the heart of Phoenix's downtown Roosevelt Row Arts District. The building is open daily and the exhibition may be viewed during business hours.
