Teams in Chesterfield and Rotherham raise funds for children’s hospice

Teams from independent health and social care provider Care UK have raised more than £3,000 for North Anston-based Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

COLCHESTER, U.K. - Dec. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- At Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre in Chesterfield, 16 team members from across all the centre’s departments took part in the Rother Valley Colour Dash, organised by Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice fundraising team.

As runners dashed round the 5km course, they passed through a station at each kilometre, where they were showered with a cloud of colour. With match funding from Care UK – as part of its initiative to put something back into the communities where it works – the team raised £1,000 for the children’s hospice.

Ward clerk Suzanne Beeston said: “We chose the hospice because it’s a fantastic cause and we hope to do more for them in the near future. We believe that funding for the hospice is key and we know what a fantastic job they all do. All the help they provide for the children and their families is amazing.”

Helen Mower, head of fundraising at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “We’re extremely grateful for the tremendous support from community and corporate fundraisers. Every penny they raise makes a huge difference to us. They help us to raise the money we need to keep our doors open, providing specialist support to children and young adults with life-shortening conditions across the region. Well done and thank-you to all those involved at Care UK. This money will help us to continue providing love and laughter for families facing the toughest of times.”

In Rotherham, the Care UK out of hours team raised funds for the hospice, where they also provide medical support. Over a nine-month period, dispatchers Louise Dolman and Chris Green raised funds by holding coffee mornings and events at Halloween, Easter and Christmas.

Louise’s mother, Jayne Dolman, who is a senior team leader based at the Rotherham Community Health Centre on Greasbrough Road, said: “I’m very proud of Louise. She and Chris have worked very hard to raise the funds. She was volunteering at the hospice when she heard that Bluebell Wood has to raise more than £3 million a year and receives less than 10 per cent of its funds from government sources, so she put her mind to helping.

“She and Chris baked lots of cakes and themed, then dressed, the rooms to whatever the occasion. Everyone, including the patients, loved it. They raised £1,090, which is really impressive, especially as Louise is also studying to be a doctor at Sheffield Medical School.”

Care UK employs 13,000 people nationwide and supports colleagues raising money for UK-based charities with its Working With The Community match-funding pledge.
