Lutheran World Relief Congratulates USAID Administrator Gayle Smith

BALTIMORE - Dec. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- On behalf of Lutheran World Relief, I would like to congratulate Gayle Smith on her confirmation as the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and we look forward to working with her to as we together pursue lasting solutions to global poverty.

USAID is a key partner of Lutheran World Relief in several of our emergency relief and development projects around the world.  Knowing Gayle from her stint working with Lutheran World Relief during the Ethiopian famine in 1984-85, we are confident she will provide strong and clear leadership in advancing our shared goals in fighting global poverty.

We particularly look forward to working with USAID and the U.S. Congress in seeking the passage of the Global Food Security Act, a crucial piece of legislation that sets forth a comprehensive strategy for assisting developing countries to increase sustainable and equitable agricultural development, reduce hunger, improve nutrition, and stimulate rural economies.
